Spatial/temporal/spectral control of optical waves using planar periodical structures within silicon photonics

摘要:Silicon photonics has raised an increasing interest in the last years and the achieved progress in all areas related to photonic circuits, optical modulators, photodetectors, or wavelength sensitive devices for on-chip WDM are impressive. Future progress towards low power consumption and ultra high data bit rate photonic circuits will rely on a tough control of the spatial, temporal, and spectral properties of light beams, including on-demand beam steering, modulation/switching beyond the free carrier induced cut-off frequencies, and a reinforced interaction between light and matter to minimize power consumption and/or interaction lengths. In this context, we will describe our last efforts devoted to planar silicon photonic photonic crystal structures, envisioned as a versatile toolbox for beam shaping, light slowing down, and fabrication of ultra-large electromagnetic density structures.
报告人简介:Eric CASSAN obtained the PhD degree from the Paris-Suduniversity, FRANCE, in 2000 and the full professorship degree in 2009. His research interests are related to integrated photonics and optoelectronics, mainly within silicon photonics. In the last ten years, he has contributed to many French and European projects on this research area and has focused his last works on slow waves structures, photonic crystal cavities, and nonlinear optics for on-chip all-optical signal processing.
